31 Day Blog Challenge

31 Day Blog Challenge

Originally it was a 30 day challenge but July has 31 days...so...yeah.

I told you all about this a couple of weeks ago and here is my challenge...
this seems not nearly as scary as the 101 things in 1001 days.

101>31

Day 1: Introduction, recent picture, 15 interesting facts

Introduction: I'm Heather. And if I tell you anything else right now I'll have no interesting/strange facts for the 15 interesting/strange facts part.

This picture was taken about 1 minute ago. Ignore the tired eyes, make-upless face, and crazy hair.
You said recent right?

1. I live in the same town where I was born. Not only is it the same town...but it is also the same street...and same house...
{Well I wasn't born in the house but you get the idea}

2. It took me almost eight years to finally graduate college. At one point I was embarrassed and ashamed of this. I'm not anymore. I spent four years at Gardner-Webb University and then transferred thinking I would have maybe a year left at Mars Hill and it ended up taking 3 more.
{FYI don't try to transfer credits from one private school to another}

3. I have a degree in Integrated Education and am certified to teach elementary education: kindergarten through sixth grade and special education: kindergarten through twelfth graded.

4. I've been going to my church, Maple Ridge Baptist Church, since I was two.

5. Every morning before I get in the shower I do a spider check.

6. Every night before I go to bed I have John do a spider check.

7. I don't watch TV. We don't have cable, but even when we did I didn't watch TV.
Instead, I find a TV show on Netflix and obsessively compulsively watch it until I watched every available episode from every available season.

8. I could eat pizza every day for every meal.

9. I do not like overly soft material. If we are in a store and I see an interesting pillow, blanket, or material I will ask John to touch it first to see if it is safe for me to touch.
{I have sensory issues}

10. I hate to wear socks. I only wear them to the gym {that tells you how rarely I wear them} and when I do they never match. I refuse to wear them to bed but I always sleep with a heating pad on my feet.

11. Wet paper and/or soggy bread makes me gag. This includes the ridiculously thin paper napkin the server puts down at the restaurant and then sits your large wet glassed iced water on...
And also the straw paper that people fidget with and often times roll into a ball.
I'm gagging right now.

12. I wash my hands in a restaurant before sitting down to eat and then stress about how I'm going to look at the menu or put ketchup on my plate. John does this for me most times.

13. I really hate checking the mail and putting gas in the car.
Both seem like a waste of time.

14. I never drank Coke or anything other than Sprite as a kid.
Now I'm obsessed with Cherry Coke Zero.

15. My first car was pink.
It was awesome.

Day 2: Your spouse

My best friend.
My everything.
My life.
My love.

I love him more which each day that passes.
I thank God everyday for him.

We went on our first date on Cinco de Mayo, Saturday, May 5, 2006.
That day...
he was late,
told me I was shorter than he remembered,
there was a hair in my food at the restaurant,
we watched a really awful movie,
and he said "If we were Asian we would make a great couple"
this was in reference to our age difference...
but I didn't really get it.

Oh yeah he also said I made him nervous, which made is lips chapped...
and then later I kissed him.

And we've been together since then.
This picture was taken the day of our first date.

Fast forward 4 years, 4 months, and 25 days.
He asked me to marry him.

Well, he didn't really ask.
Here's what happened.

I came home after an awful day. I had been on a field trip all day to a stinky farm. It rained the entire day and every step was muddier than the last.
I ate lunch in a stable with horses.
Seriously.

I came home and saw John's car in my driveway. I went inside but he wasn't there so I walked up to my parents house to find him...he wasn't there either and neither were my parents. So then I walked up to my Grandma's house. As I'm walking up the stairs I see everyone inside her house scurrying around.

I go inside and they are all acting really weird. My mom makes up some something about thanks for the help moving blah blah blah and John looks at me and says "Let's go eat."
Ok, I do love food....

So we walk back down to my house and he is being all weird and giggly and I think he is laughing at my hair.
{Those of you who know me know my favorite hairstyle...all piled up on top of my head all crazy...so picture that hair on top of a horse poop, rain filled day.}

So I go fix my hair and come back and he is still being giggly. So then I think He must be laughing at my clothes or something. So I'm getting somewhat offended and really confused and he says...

"You asked me what I wanted for my birthday {his birthday was the following day} and I told you all I wanted was you...and that's what I meant."
And then he pulls the ring box out of his pocket.

{So earlier he had been up to my Grandma's house to show everyone the ring...and my Grandma got it stuck on her finger...}

 Some of our engagement pictures.

Fast forward 7 months and 28 days.
Our wedding day.

It was the most perfect day of my life. I have never been more happy or seen him more happy. I'll be blogging about it later on day 26 of the blog challenge.

Some pictures from our wedding.

Isn't he handsome?

He is an EMT, a Firefighter, a  Special Olympics Coach, a Powerlifter, and a Grad-School Student.

He is an intellectual, a giver, a friend.

He is a spider killer, a bed maker, a goodnight kisser.

He is mine.

Day 3: Your parents and siblings

My parents.

I have two wonderful parents. They have been married almost 34 years.
I love that.

My parents are two of the most hard working people there are.
I am grateful that they raised my brother and me to know the difference in right in wrong, to love others, and most importantly in church.

My daddy and me on my wedding day.

My dad is a hardworking, southern, Christian, man.
He can build anything with a couple of 2x4s and hammer and nails.
He wears cowboys and wranglers on the daily.
He gets teary when he talks to God.

I've never called him Dad.
Daddy is his name.

My mama proud of her completed to-do list.

My mom is the most loving, caring and giving person I know.
She is also multi-talented.
She decorates wedding cakes, quilts, and roofs houses.

She took care of my Great-Great Aunt Stella and also my Grandma Buckner.
They both passed away this year.
My mom was the best care giver.
I'll never be able to repay her for the love she showed for my Grandma, her mother-in-law and my Aunt, her Great-Aunt in law?

She is my mama.

My brother.

I am six years older than my brother but despite the age difference we are still close.
He was my man of honor at my wedding and I loved having him standing with me.

He is best described by Eric Church:

I wear a greasy ball cap
I like my shirt untucked
I spend Saturdays working on my truck
I don't like to fight
But I ain't scared to bleed
Most don't mess with a guy like me
Cause' guys like me drink to many beers {Mountain Dews} on friday after work
Our best blue jeans have skoal rings
We wear our boots to church
So rough around the edges...

You get the point.
He is a firefighter, an EMT, a produce delivery truck driver.

He is my brother.

Day 4: Your pets

 Button!

John bought Button for me on my 22nd birthday.  I wasn't even allowed to have pets in the apartment I lived in at that time. But we didn't care.
She used to ride back and forth with my in the car from Shelby to Asheville every weekend.
She used to hate BooBoo but now she tolerates her.
Sometimes she will walk past BooBoo and raise her paw to smack her and think about it again and walk away.
She is so sweet and loves attention and loves to be hugged.
She is almost 6 years old.
She loves treats...and John spoils her.
It's the weirdest thing. She really loves to be held right near your face and given a hug. She is really prissy and thinks that whenever anyone is eating that she should be fed a bite of whatever...
She is solid black except for the little white patch under her neck.
I named her Button because I used to love Will & Grace and there is this one episode where Jack says "You're a Button"
Random...I know.

 BooBoo!

John baught me BooBoo for Valentines Day about 5 years ago.
We got her from a shelter that was closing and having to get rid of all of the animals.
She was really sickly when we got her and super weird.
She tries so hard to be sweet...
But her claws are like knives.
She thinks Button is friend...
{she's not very bright}
And she thinks Brie is her friend too...

She is allergic to herself and sneezes constantly, pulls her hair out, and has watery eyes all the time.
And bald spots.
And is the smallest full grown cat ever...like 5 lbs or less.
But we love her anyway.
We named her BooBoo because it's funny.

 Brie!

Craziest dog ever!
No really...
We got her about a year go from our neighbor who was moving away and couldn't take her.
She is incredibly smart and incredibly hyper.
She is a Catahoula Leopard and weighs about 53 lbs.

She knows a lot of tricks like: sit, shake, down, up, jump, turn left, turn right, roll over, speak, and play dead (we just say "bang" and she does it)
And she will do any and all of these tricks to get a treat.
And sometimes she doesn't want to wait on the command for one certain trick...so she just does them all together...
We named her Brie because it is a B name...just like Button, and BooBoo.
She loves to torture Button by running after her.
She just barks at BooBoo.
She is 1 year old.

Day 5: Your favorite song

I have way too many to choose from.
But here are a few...

1. "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz
I walked down the aisle to this song on our wedding day.

19. "Baby Girl" by Sugarland
Reminds me of my parents.

20. "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by the Charlie Daniels Band
I love fiddles!

Day 6: A picture of something that makes you happy

So the obvious choices are my husband, my parents, my brother, my friends, my pets, and so on...
but I've already dedicated a day to each of them {except the friends...tune in on day 13 for that} and people are not things and the direction for today was a thing that makes me happy.

So...

 Our bed.
It's a new bed and it is amazingly comfortable.
John ordered it last week and it is seriously the best bed ever.
{excuse the messy semi made up covers...I was laying down and had to get up to take the picture}

So, my bed makes me happy...especially after a long day.

Day 7: Your favorite movie

I have lots of favorite movies...
including:

1. Dirty Dancing
"Me? I'm scared of everything. I'm scared of what I saw, I'm scared of what I did, of who I am, and most of all I'm scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I'm with you."
Best movie of alll time! I have seen this movie more times than I can count.
I know every word and every song.
<3 Swayze

2. Steel Magnolias
"Pink is my signature color."
I so love this movie and every time I watch it I cry.
And it has Julia Roberts and Dolly in it!

3. Fried Green Tomatoes
"I found out what the secret of life is: Friends. Best Friends."
Not only is this a spectacular movie but it's also a food group.
You should try it.

4. Now and Then
"You can't get pregnant from french kissing!"
I loved this movie as a teenager and every time my cousins and I would get together we would watch it.
I still have it on VHS.
Jealous?

5.  Pretty Woman
"I want the fairy tale."
 Hello?!? It's Richard Gere..
and Julia Roberts...

6. Sleeping Beauty
"I walked with you once upon a dream."
 I so love this movie.
I love that all the fairies had different color dresses.
And she is the prettiest princess.

7. Grease
"You're the one that I want!"
Two words.
Travolta.
Musical.

8. The Shawshank Redemption
"I find I'm so excited, I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitement only a free man can feel, a free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope."
Love love love Morgan Freeman

9. Forrest Gump
"I'm not a smart man. But I know what love is."
I know every word to this movie.
Never gets old.

10. Sling Blade
"I like them french-fried potaters."
Best Billy Bob movie.
Ever.

Honorable Mention:
What's Eating Gilbert Grape?
"I'm going higher than before!"
Johnny Depp and Leonardo Dicaprio.
Need I say more?

If you haven't watched these movies...You should.
Right Now.

Day 8: A place you would like to travel to

Check it out.

 http://pinterest.com/hmbhollifield/lets-go-here/

I have a whole board on places I wanna go.
Here are the top five.

 Bora Bora

 Tuscany

 Lac Rose
{Hello it's pink?!?}

 Bridges Park, Ireland
{Pink!}

The Fairy Pools in Scotland

So...mostly I just picked these places because I'm obsessed with the pictures.
Let's go!

Day 9: A favorite picture of someone you could never imagine your life without

I've already written about my husband, my parents, and my brother and today the challenge was a favorite picture of someone you could never imagine your life without.
My Grandmothers...
I can't even begin to imagine how different my life would have been without them.
I've always been close to them and am so blessed that I had them as Grandmothers.

My Grandma Ellison and me on my wedding day.
I'm so lucky that I still have my grandma here with me.

My Grandma Buckner and me on my wedding day.
My sweet Grandma passed away this year in February but I had 27 years to spend with her.
For that I am thankful.

Day 10: Something you're afraid of
 Spiders.
I hate them.
I am constantly doing spider checks.
If a strand of hair, blade of grass, or anything else unexpected touches me I go off the deep end thinking it is a spider about to dig it's fangs into my skin.
I am so afraid of spiders that I can't even post a real picture of a spider.
Hate. Them.
Afraid.
End of story.
Day 11: Favorite TV shows
I've told you all about my TV habits....
I don't watch TV...
I randomly find a show on Netflix and watch every available episode of every available season until I finish it.
And then I find another random show.
So the favorites are...

1. Will and Grace
Best. Show. Ever.
I've seen every episode and own every season.
Makes me miss my Hannah.

2. Golden Girls
Who doesn't love these ladies?

3. Dexter
Netflix really needs to have more seasons on instant.

4. Lie to Me
Love. This. Show.

5. Storage Wars
But only the one with Barry Weiss.

6. Criminal Minds
So good!

7. Solved: Extreme Forensics
 It's extreme!

8. Pretty Little Liars
You can judge...I got sucked in and became obsessed.

9. 30 Rock
Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey..hello?!

10. Bones
<3 Booth and Bones

11. I Almost Got Away With It
 Almost...

12. The First 48
Love this show.

13. Hoarders
Makes me feel better about myself...

14. Cold Case Files
I really should have been a forensics investigator

15. Obsessed
Makes my obsessive tendencies seem small.

16. Glee
Another one where you can feel free to judge away.

17. Wheel of Fortune
I am the Champ.

18. Jeopardy
And not so much the champ at this one...

19. Army Wives

<3

20. Private Practice
Addicting!

Day 12: Something you don't leave the house without

Probably my phone and my keys.
  The homescreen on my phone.

My keys.

No big drawn out explanation needed.
A girl needs her phone and her keys.

Day 13: Friends

I have amazing friends.
Be jealous.

My most special friends are these precious girls.
Krystal, Rachel, Me, Hanna, and Monica on my wedding day.

 My Hannah.
Hannah and I met at Gardner-Webb University my sophomore year. We first became friends in an Elementary Art class.
Hannah was so good at painting, and crafting, and ....
{yeah...not so much}
We bonded by laughing at her projects.
The next year we became roommates and best friends.
When thinking about our friendship the one moment that stands out to me like no other is when we were still newly roommates...
We were in the kitchen of our apartment and there was some leftover pizza crust on the counter. I'm not sure if we had already eaten the pizza or what..I don't really remember.
But I do remember that we were there talking {about how much we hated Gardner-Freaking-Webb, I'm sure} and she started picking at the pizza crust...
Then she took a bite...realized what she had done...looked at me...and waited...
I then picked up a piece...at ate some too...
at that instant we knew that we could be best friends because we are both gross.
{The pizza wasn't like a week old or anything...so don't go judging too much!}
You know I love pizza!
We've made so many memories together and I cherish our friendship.
I miss you Hannah!

 Rach.
Rachel and I have been friends for a long time... we grew up in church together...and have been friends since we were about 8 or so.
When we were kids and teenagers we spent a lot of weekends and summers together.
Rachel is now a wife, a mother {to two beautiful girls}, and still a great friend.
It's so nice to know that even after all of these years we still have one-another.
Love you Rachel!

 The {second}favorite granddaughter, Monica.
Not my granddaughter, my cousin...but she is delusional in her thinking that she is the favorite granddaughter.
We all KNOW who that is.
Monica has been a role model for me my entire life. I can remember watching her fix her hair, do her make-up, and do whatever else was cool in the 80's {haha} and wanting to be just like her.
We have had lots and lots of fun times together such as: winning at Taboo, winning at Cranium Wow, winning at Smart Ass...we do lots of winning in this family.
I am so thankful that I have her as a cousin, a role model, and a friend.
She is a great wife, mom, and Christian woman.
I love you Monica, can't wait for the beach...and to win at some board games!

Classy Krystal.
Krystal and I met our freshman year at Gardner-Webb University...we lived in the same dorm building but didn't become good friends until later.
We also bonded over Hannah's lack of art creativity.
{sorry Hannah}
Krystal and I had lots of classy moments together...
hanging out at Ink Link...
Combos...
and skipping class...
Oh how I miss her.
She is such a good friend that I even introduced her to John's friend Shane.
And now they are married
and have a little Bean.
We miss you guys so much and can't wait to see you again!
{They moved :(}

 My Lena.
I don't have a picture with her on my wedding day because for some odd reason my brother didn't think my PERFECT wedding was an appropriate second date...
{Shows what he knows...}

Lena has been dating my baby brother for a little over a year now and I LOVE her.
I am so lucky that God has brought her into our family and I hope she stays around for a long time.
She is so sweet to my brother, always gives great hugs, and is my friend.
Love you!

I am so very blessed to have such great friends in my life!

Day 14: A picture of you last year- how have you changed?

I'm picking two pictures.

 Me on my wedding day.

 Me at my college graduation.

Both of these pictures were taken last May. Since {right before} these pictures I have graduated college, gotten married, cut 12 inches off my hair for locks of love, got my first teaching job, lost 21 lbs, celebrate my 1st anniversary, and finished my first year of teaching.
This was an exciting year.

It was also a tough year.
I had to leave the school I worked at as an assistant for 4 years to start teaching at a different school. I left behind friends that I miss dearly.
I lost my sweet Great-Great Aunt Stella in December.
My precious Grandmother Buckner went to be with Jesus after suffering from Alzheimer's in February.
And my other grandmother found out she had breast cancer.
{She has since had surgery and is doing great!}

Things have changed over the last year and I'm excited to see with this year has in store.

Day 15: Favorite Bible verse

It's more than just one verse...its the whole chapter.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not chairtly, if profiteth me nothing.
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity evnieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
Doth no tbehave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall ease; whether there be knowldege, it shall vanish away.
For we know in party, and we prophesy in part.
But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in party shall be done away.
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in party; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
1 Corinthians 13: 1-13

Day 16: Your home or dream home

We are hoping to build a house this year. I am using Pinterest to plan and organize all household stuff I love!

I want a porch like this...wouldn't mind having the house too...

And a back porch like this...

 And a great sun room...

And an outdoor kitchen like this...

And a closet like this...
I would {maybe} share with John.

And a library that is a mix of these two...

And this bathtub and shower...

And a laundry room like this...
minus that tile...ew.

And a mix of these two kitchens...

And an office for me...and an office for John...

And a living room...and a den...

And also a guest bed and bath...

And these great kid rooms...

and a matching bathroom for each.

A girl can dream...right?

Day 17: Something you're looking forward to

I am so looking forward to vacation! My mama, my grandma, my Lena, my cousin, and my aunt, and I are going to Florida. I am so excited I can barely stand it!

Here is where we are staying.

So excited!

Day 18: Favorite Food

If you know me...you know my answer to this question...

Pizza.

Pizza is my most favorite food ever.
I could literally eat it every day of my life.

Specifically, cheese pizza...
or pepperoni pizza.

Or any other kind that taste delicious...just don't add onions, peppers, ham, sausage, or anything else gross.

I'm pretty boring when it comes to pizza.
Except for this wonderful spinach, feta, and tomato pizza I made.
Go here for the recipe.
